It is essential to know table tennis rules if you want to play this wonderful indoor game. There are many individuals who do not like playing outdoor games and are more interested in playing indoor games especially incase of girls who are more attracted towards indoor activities but many boys too play indoor games. There are many indoor games and table tennis is one of them which does not require any outdoor activity and can be played inside a closed hall or in an auditorium. Playing table tennis requires lots of stamina, energy and very high fitness level. It is a very crafty sport because it requires lots of skill and mind presence to outwit the opponent.
Table tennis rules for equipments
Following are the table tennis rules related to the equipments -
The bat – Standard Table tennis bat is available at all sports stores which are according to the specification of International Table Tennis Federation. The bat is small as well as round and has rubber coating on both sides which allows punching and spinning the ball perfectly with the bat so that the player can outwit the opponent. The bat cannot be changed during the course of the match but if the bat gets damaged a player is allowed to change it. The bat has black and red rubber on either side.
The Ball – The Ball is small and hard. Table tennis balls with standard specification are available in all sports stores.
The Table – Table is almost rectangular in shape and has one horizontal (in width) as well as one vertical (in height) line bisecting the table from the middle. The table has to be 0.76 meter in height, 1.525 meter wide and 2.74m long. In the middle of the table there is a small net partition which divides the table in 2 equal parts.

The Serve – The serve can be legitimate only when the player keeps the ball in the open palm and tosses it up in the air and hits with the bat with first bounce of the ball should be in the servers half and the next bounce should be on the opposite side of the table and that too it should fall diagonally into opponents area without touching the net. If the ball touches the net and lands inside the opponents half then the serve becomes ineligible and is called a “let” serve and the server has to again serve and if again “let” serve occurs then point is awarded to the opponent. Remember while serving the ball should be tossed up without spinning it and the bat should hit the ball when it comes down to make a serve legal and the ball should be tossed at least 6 inches high while serving.
The Games and Points -- A match can have minimum 3 and maximum of 5 games. Each game is of 11 points and the player who reaches 11 points first with 2 point difference wins the game. Both players get chance to serve twice and if both players get to 10 points then both the players serve once, till one player has two points difference. A player has to win at least 2 games out of 3 or 3 games out of 5 to win a match. Also, remember a point is won when the ball does not touch the table on the opposite side and falls directly to the ground.
